Ladies Craft evening

I am hosting a ladies christmas craft evening in my house tomorrow night 12th dec 7:30pm.
please pray for Jessie (a friend who is coming to do the craft and to say a few words) and pray for the evening to go well thanks charis

last club of the year

We had the last club of the year today, we had a bit of a problem with one of the kids today but the rest of the time went well. We had a bit of a party and here is a picture of some of the crafts we made. We will not start back till the end January as we are not sure who can help us next term and it gives us some time to find out and sort things out. Please pray the kids will think about the real meaning of christmas this year.

Children's ministry conference

I am going up to Dublin tomorrow to go into school again, it's my 3rd week out of 5, please pray for me as I travel up early in the morning as the weather is very cold and the roads might be icy.  On Saturday I am going to a children's ministry conference in Dublin called Building blocks and on Sunday I am going to church in Grosvenor so it will be a busy few days.

An auntie again

There was a new addition to the Tully clan last week, my brother mark and his wife Katrina had a baby girl on Thursday the 14th Nov, Hannah Tully! I am looking forward to going up to see her and her parents and brother Ethan next week.

Bible explorer

I go back into school in Dublin again this Thursday to see the second part of the bible explorer schools programme, it was very interesting to see the first lesson last week, but it was tiring going up to Dublin late wed and coming back late thurs night. I also have homework to do which is hard to fit in along with everything else, please pray I learn lots over the next few weeks going up and down to Dublin and pray that i have the energy i need to do this extra travelling and homework!!  pray also for Colin as he takes the lessons in the school and  for the kids in the class that  i am observing in, that they get excited about the Bible. thanks charis

you never know what will happen ..

On Sunday afternoon I was putting my recycling into the bin as it gets collected on a monday morning, when my finger got cut on a tin! I ended up going to the doctor and getting it glued shut, thankfully it is not too sore now but it will take a few days to heal.

On the move

Hi there last week was half term and so there was no club, which gave me some time to catch up on some jobs that needed doing like my prayer letter (see the last post) and if you do not get my prayer letter via email and would like to let me know! We also had a church outing to lazer quest on thursday night and a ladies meal out on friday night so it was a nice break from the norm.
This week club is back and I am starting a 5 week training programme in Dublin, I will go up for a day a week, go into a school and observe the programme in action and then do some training in using the programme before getting the road back to Tramore. Please pray for safety on the roads and that this will be a good time of learning, the idea would be to try and use this in schools here in tramore in the future. see  www.bible.org.uk/children_what.html for more info. My back was nearly back to normal and then flared up again, it is not as bad as it was initially but it is still not good so please pray the driving won't aggravate it , thanks for your continued support love charis x

New prayer letter

Tales from Tramore Number 5, November 2013

 UPDATE
Hi all, just a note to say hi and to update you on my news. I am so sorry it has taken me so long to write this prayer letter, it has been on my list of things to do for ages but it kept getting put on the long finger, but now it is half term, and I have no more excuses!   When I last updated you it was just the beginning of the summer! It is hard to believe the summer is already over and we are back into the new term and Christmas is just around the corner. I was in Tramore for the summer but in September I was away for a bit as I had a few speaking engagements and my brother David got married, so I only just feel like I am getting back into the swing of things now. Please find all my news enclosed. Thanks so much for your continued support and prayers love Charis xx

The Summer
The summer was very busy but it was nice to have a change in my weekly routine. I ran a 5 day club (with a pirate theme) at the end of July which went really well, we had about 20 kids each day (a lot of kids were new). The club was in the same hall and estate where we have club during the year and I ran it along with some helpers from church and 6 helpers from the beach missions team that was here that week.  Beach missions were here for 3 weeks and it was nice to spend some time with them too. Over the summer I was also able to have a few get togethers at my house for people from the church.  I also had lots of visitors over the summer, which was great, and they saw Tramore in the sun too which is rare!

King’s Kids (kid’s club)
We didn’t start back club till the beginning of October and with 2 days to go I wasn’t even sure if we would have enough helpers to start. Thankfully a college girl (Alanna) from church stepped up to help so that now there are 3 of us each week but this is still not enough leaders as we have over 20 kids coming and some of them are hard to manage. Every second week one of my leaders (Mary) can’t come as she is working so Inge (my ECM colleague) is helping out every second week till Christmas but this is not a long term solution.  I have been considering changing the time of the club so that potentially more people would be available to help or restricting the number of kids that can come, or ....  Please pray I will know what to do next term as we won’t have enough leaders.

                 Bible Explorer:
For the next 5 weeks I am going to be going to Dublin every Thursday to do some training in a program called Bible explorer. I will go into a primary school in Dublin to see the program in action and then I will do some training in how to use and teach the program.
For more information see www.bible.org.uk/children_what.html

  Family Wedding

My brother David got married to Carmel in September so I took a week off and went down to Doolin in county Clare. Congratulations to my bother David and his new wife Carmel!

Prayer and Praise Points:
  •  Praise that the 5 day summer club went well
  •  Praise that a lot of kids have come back to club this new term and that new kids have come too
  • Praise that Alanna (a college girl from church) is helping with club
  • Pray for the church as they continue to get used to the new leadership and for many in the church who are going through tough times at the moment
  • Pray for me as I try and get a good balance between work and life
  •  Pray for wisdom as regards king’s kids club for next year as regards helpers, time to have it etc
  • Pray for me as I consider other  ministry opportunities  for the new year in schools etc
  • Pray for me as I do the Bible explorer training
  • Pray for my back as I hurt it a few weeks ago
  • Please continue to pray for my friend Dave who lost his wife Sharon in June

One week on

It is a week now since my back started hurting and thankfully it is a lot better one week on, but it is still not 100% better. In my short week of pain, I was thinking about people who suffer chronic pain , it must be dreadful as you can't concentrate on anything and everyday tasks become impossible, spare a thought and a prayer or 2 for someone you know in pain today, thanks for all your prayers charis x

A bit of a pain

I was supposed to go and do puppet training on Saturday but unfortunately I hurt my back ( I am not sure how ) and I decided not to go up north as my back was too sore, my back is getting better but it is still sore, please pray for continued healing thanks charis x

Puppets

I have always wanted to use puppets in my kids work but I didn't know how to use them properly so I have never used them....up until now!!  I am now going for some training at the weekend in Northern Ireland and hopefully I will be on using puppets in my work very soon!!!

Kids club

Kids club started back last week and we had over 20 kids which was great! A lot of the kids that came  were at the 5 day club over the summer so it was great to see them come to the club but our problem is we do not have enough helpers. One lady can only help every second week as she works the other week but thankfully another college girl has started to help too, but that means there are only 3 of us one week and then just 2 of us on the alternate weeks which is not enough. Please pray that we will either get more leaders or have the wisdom to know what's to do, if it is to change the time, day or to stop the club for now. Thanks charis x

Wedding!

I was away last week at my brothers wedding, it was a good but busy week!!
Congratulations to Carmel and David Tully!
Now I have to try and get back into work mode as club starts up again next week! I am going to visit some of the parents of kids that come to club this week to meet them and to ask if the time and day of club is good or if it was changed would that be ok for them, please pray for these visits on wed and fri. Thanks Charis x

Update

I am just back from being away for 9 nights, I was in Dublin, the north and back to Dublin. I was speaking in Swords Baptist church, at a missionary day for kids in Portadown Baptist and at sunday club in Grosvenor Baptist church, in-between these meetings I met friends and supporters and shopped to find a dress for my brothers wedding (it took ages but I eventually found one I liked). I had a good time away meeting new people and renewing old friendships.
Thanks especially for your prayers for the missionary discovery day in Portadown, there were about 40 kids there and we learnt about missionaries in Ireland in the past (Saint Patrick) and missionaries in the present (me). I have been catching up on work since I got back as I am going away to my brothers wedding next week!  Thanks for your continued prayers and support and it was great to recently meet up with lots of you in person thanks, charis xx

Speaking engagements

Just to let you know I have a few speaking engagements coming up soon.
Swords Baptist church on the 1st September and
a missionary discovery day (for kids) in Portadown Baptist on the 7th September .
Please pray for me as I Prepare and speak on these dates.

Trip to England

My friend Claire and I had booked  to go see our friend Sharon in England at the end August (we booked it when we got back from her in March), sadly Sharon did not make it till August (she was battling cancer) and she died in June this year. Claire and I decided to go over anyway to visit her in-laws and to try and enjoy it as best as we could as we know Sharon would have wanted us to go anyway!
It was hard to go visit her Mother-in-law (Marilyn) and Sister-in-law (Andrea) but we had a good time with them reminiscing and telling them funny stories about Sharon (she would kill us) but also letting them know we care about them and that they are stuck with us even though Sharon is gone.
Please pray for them as they grieve and for Dave Sharon's husband (who we did not see this visit).
It was so strange to be over to visit and not to see Sharon but thank God we know she is in Heaven now, but we still miss her.

Birthday

It was my Birthday last week, the first one in Tramore!
My brother David was down this direction with work and stayed overnight the night before my birthday and we had birthday cake no 1, the next day (my actual Bday) i went to visit my friend Claire in Portlaoise and we went to the cinema and had birthday teacakes!!
The next day I went to Dublin via saggart (here i met up with a girl i used to go to Uni with) and then in Dublin I met up with áine and we went to a James bond movie in a small cinema in a hotel!
It was a great birthday and it was lovely to catch up with friends and family and to watch lots of movies and eat lots of Indian food my only complaint was that it was just over too quickly!

Support

This past weekend I had some more visitors, Anne, Avril and Arthur came to visit from Cork, Clare and Dublin. It was lovely to see them all, to show them around and introduce them to friends in church. These friends are part of a support group that support me in my work here in Tramore.  I have many wonderful supporters (praying for me, encouraging me and supporting me financially) but there is a group of 7 (Anne, Arthur, Avril, Claire, Jenni, Edwina and Steve)  that specifically arrange to meet up with me every few months via skype (and sometimes in person) to ask how I am doing, to suggest things, to encourage me, to pray for me etc.
It is very hard to arrange to all get together in person but this past weekend the A team (as they were nicknamed) came to town (Avril, Anne and Arthur) Jenni and her husband Robert were here the weekend before, Steve was here in July with beach missions and Claire will be here next weekend so I will have managed to see everyone except Edwina and hopefully she will be down soon:)

Day 5 ....We can go to heaven one day to be with Jesus the treasure

Sorry for the delay in letting you know how the last day of club went but my mum arrived in to tramore on friday afternoon and then i was cleaning and tidying the hall before going up to visit my brother and his family in the north of Ireland on sat for the bank holiday weekend.
We had 20 kids on friday and 10 adults came to join us for the pirate party (the last 30 mins of camp) to hear the memory verse, a song, and to have some refreshments.
Thanks for your prayers over the week,  your prayers REALLY helped.
Please continue to pray for the seeds that were sown and that many of these kids will come to club when we start back again in oct.
Thanks again love charis
ps the beach missions are in tramore for their last week this week please pray it will be a good last week for them

Day 4 ...Jesus came to die for us

Well it was dry this morning but the grass was very wet so we opted to stay inside and play games .
We had 16 kids again this morning and as well as games we designed pirate flags. We had a new Jack sparrow today (Brendan a guy from church), it was great to have him and others from church involved as well as the beach missions.
Praise God for safety so far
Pray for tomorrow our last morning that it will go well and that some parents will come at 12:30 for our pirate party
Pray for me as i tie up all the teaching tomorrow
thanks charis

Pirate night on the beach

Last night the beach missions had a pirate night on the beach, we invited the kids from camp to come along and it was great to see that a couple of the families we invited came along and took part, and one of them even won the event!!!

Day 3 ....Jesus is God

Today it was VERY wet here in Tramore, and only 16 kids ventured out to join us at camp.
We obviously had to play our games indoors so in some ways it was better there were less kids.
We we were learning more about Jesus today and through the story of the paralyzed man we learnt that Jesus is God! (the kids listened REALLY well today too)
We decorated some treasure chests and played games such as pass the cannonball!!
Please pray for some of the kids that came at the beginning to come back fro the last 2 days
Please pray for the energy we all need to keep going
Please pray for the lessons as we are getting to the more serious stuff in the next few days.
Please pray that the parents will come along to our pirate party on friday morning at 12:30
Praise for safety over the last few days too
thanks charis

Day 1 of pirate club/camp - The Bible is a treasure map

Day 1 is over and we all survived, the ship didn't sink yet!!!
We had 22 kids today,  a lot of kids i don't know as they are either new to club or they used to come to club in the past.  The weather was fab which was great as we could have games outside.
I am wrecked already (i only got a few hours sleep last night with all the last minute prep)
Please continue to pray for us during the week thanks charis xx
ps the pics are of the pirate mask making we did today

It all starts tomorrow....

Please, please pray for the camp that starts tomorrow at 11:30am! I only got to meet with the beach missions helpers tonight (sun) and I think they were a bit overwhelmed by everything that I was telling them and asking them to do tomorrow (as was I) this will only work well tomorrow with your prayers and God's help as I feel very under prepared and I know the team are not prepared.
Pray for all the helpers to work well together , there are 7 from beach missions (Guia, hannah, chris, daniel, joel, richard and rosemary) and 2 from church (Marcus and Alanna),  anna from calvery church, and there are others coming from church on other days such as joan, theresa and marcus.
Pray for the kids to come .
pray for me as I teach the main lessons and for the technology to work ok.
thanks for ALL your help through prayer love Charisxx

Thanks

Hi all thanks SO much for your phone calls, texts, emails, FB messages and especially your prayers over the last few weeks. It has been a difficult time, at this stage I feel a bit numb from it all, time seems to have passed very slowly in the last 3 weeks and yet it is July and life is going on and things need to be done. I have been trying to do office work today emails, accounts etc there is always so much to keep on top of and with my move and with sharon's death I have let things slip for a few months. It has been hard to do office work when the weather is so fab but it needs to be done, and then I can focus on getting ready for the 5 day kids club which is on from 29th july -2nd aug ( only 3 weeks away) I am trying to decide on a theme at the moment, pirates or despicable me, I think despicable me would be more fun but more work please pray I will know what will be best to tackle. I am also in charge of sunday school for the summer and have that to prepare for too. thanks for your continued support and prayers charis x

Latest Prayer letter

Tales from Tramore
Number 4, June 2013

 UPDATE
Hi all, just a note to say hi and to update you on my news. I have been working here in Tramore for 6 months now, which is hard to believe, I still feel like I have just arrived!! Since I last updated you I have had to move house again which was a big shock and I wondered what God was doing! I found out just before Easter that the family who I was renting from were coming back to Ireland and needed their house back and so I had just a few months to find a new place, pack and move. They say moving is one of the most stressful things you can do in your life and I have moved 3 times in this past year! I want to thank God for helping me through this time and for those who prayed, encouraged, sympathised, packed and moved stuff for me. A big group of friends, ECM team and church people helped me move a lot of my stuff over one weekend and I am in my new place now since the end May. I went on holidays with my mum after the move which was a good time of rest and relaxation but now I need to unpack and sort myself out in my new place. I also have to pay more money in rent so please pray God will continue to meet all my financial needs too. I am thankful I have a roof over my head (and a very nice one) and that I have food on the table as I know many people in the world don’t have those basic things.  A very close friend of mine (Sharon) who has been battling cancer for nearly 4 years , went downhill over the last few months and passed away just a few days ago, she was a great friend and supporter and a true inspiration as she continued to trust God through her illness, pain and disappointments, she is in heaven now and there is no more pain and suffering for her but please pray for us as we grieve her loss and especially her husband David. Thanks for your continued support and prayers love Charis xx

Summer Plans
I will be all alone in Tramore this summer (as regards the ECM team) as 2 ECM families are leaving Tramore for good. The Postmas  leave the 1st week of July and the McCrackens leave the 2nd week of July. Both families will still be working for ECM; the Postmas back in Holland looking after short term teams and the McCrackens will be starting a new work in claremorris, Co Mayo. The other ECM family (Malschaerts) will be in Holland on home assignment but  don’t worry there will still be plenty of church people around to keep me in check and there is also the ECM team in Ferrybank if I get into too much trouble !!   As there are so many people away over the summer I am looking after the Sunday school (TBC kids) for July and Aug. The older class will stay in the service and either listen to the sermon or do work sheets at the back and I will teach the younger ones, which means I will be teaching every week!  But don’t worry I will have help as the beach missions will take the class for the 3 weeks they are around so I will have 5 weeks total to do; 2 before beach missions and 3 after. Pray for me as I prepare for this over the next few weeks.  I also hope to run a 5 day club from the 29th July -2nd Aug  in the same hall and estate where we have club during the year. I will also have help from the beach missions which will make it possible to do the club as we will have lots of manpower! Please pray for me as I plan the week, there is a lot of work to be done, and please pray that many kids will come and that God will be at work that week. I will also spend time with the beach missions when they are here 20th July – 10th Aug, they work with kids and families on the beaches of Ireland.  See www.ubm.org.uk for more info.

King’s Kids (kid’s club)
We studied the life of Joseph this term in club and looked at the fact that he had lots of up’s and down’s in his life but God with him through it all, that God was in control and had a plan for his life even when it didn’t seem like it. It spoke to me a lot over the term as I came to terms with having to move again. The numbers of kids coming to club usually goes down a lot in the summer term as the weather is better and kids have athletics on the same afternoon as club so we decided to finish up club the end of May. The numbers were not too bad, we had between 10-12 most weeks but the number of helpers was the problem and this will be an issue next term too as some people have left  etc. Please pray I will know what to do next term if we don’t have enough helpers.

Prayer and Praise Points:
  • Praise and prayer for continued support through prayer and finances
  • Praise I found a new place to live and got moved in ok
  • Pray for the church and team as they say goodbye to the Postmas and McCrackens and for both families as they move onto new challenges
  • Pray for preparation and running of the 5 day summer club 29th July -2nd Aug
  •  Pray for wisdom as regards king’s kids club for the new term as regards helpers etc
  •  Pray for me as I look after the Sunday school (TBC kids) over the summer
  •  Pray for the Beach missions as they come to do evangelism in Tramore for 3 weeks from July 20th
  • Please Pray for Sharon’s husband David, her Dad, brothers, sister, nieces and the rest of her family  and friends at this very difficult time

Sadness

It is with great sadness that I write this blog entry, my beautiful, courageous, loyal, fun  friend went to heaven yesterday the 21st June. Please pray for her husband Dave at this time and for her dad, brothers, sister, nieces and all the extended family. Sharon loved God and trusted him throughout her illness, she was an inspiration and a great friend she will be missed but we will meat again in heaven. I thank God her suffering is over and that she is cancer free now.

I am back in my new house and I have broadband again!!

Hi all just to let you know I got back from my holidays safe and sound (the sea was a bit rough on the way home). I have been catching up on work such as replying to emails etc this week which was made much easier by the fact I got my broadband back a couple of days ago as before that the only spot i could get coverage (on the dongle) was in the window ledge upstairs in my bedroom!! I was also trying to unpack and sort some of my house out this week too but I got some very bad news about my friend Sharon last saturday which means it has been difficult to concentrate on work this week, she has been battling cancer for the past few years and on friday she was admitted to hospital (in england). She is now in a coma and the outlook is not good; please pray for her and her husband Dave and the rest of the family at this very difficult time! You can get more information and updates on her blog www.sharonpnews.blogspot.com

All good things must come to an end...

Well my holiday finishes tomorrow, I have had a nice time away doing things other than packing and moving but the weather here has not been as nice as it was in Ireland!! I still have no internet in my new house and I am not sure when i will get it (they said it could take a month) I will be back to unpacking, sorting and getting ready for summer activities such as a 5 day club, beach missions and sunday school (I am looking after it for the summer) as well as goodbye activities (the Postma's and McCracken's leave in July). I will write again when I can but please pray for me as I prepare for all the summer activities and as i settle into my new home thanks charis x

On holidays

I am away for a much needed holiday (with my mum), but guess what the weather is fab in Ireland and cold here on holidays!! It is good to relax and do other things than pack, move, unpack and sort stuff!! before i left for my holidays I was in my new house for 3 nights so it is not sorted out yet but at least i am in it!!! I don't have internet yet in my new place and it could take a few more weeks (so i will not be on here much) , but i have some internet here on holidays. anyway I am enjoying my break as there is a lot to do when i get back so I had best be ready!!!!

The last few minutes...

It is 12:50 on the 31st may and I have just 10 minutes before my landlord comes to get the keys of the house etc from me :( (and before i switch off the modem for the internet). I have moved everything to the new house (just about) but it is hard to get in the front door as it is all just thrown in and not sorted or organised at all, so the work is not over yet! I now need to go to my new house and make up my bed and get myself organised enough to live there for the next few days and i need to pack to go on holidays as I go away on Monday with mum  (it seemed a good idea when we booked it). I will have no internet at the new house for a few weeks (they said it could take 28 days) so I am not sure when I will get to update this blog again.
We had the last King's kids club on wed and it went well bye for now thanks charis xx

Still moving

Hi all, it is lovely weather here this weekend but I am still moving so I can only enjoy it from the house and car!! I have sorted a lot of my stuff at the new house and have nearly emptied the old house; I would love to have nearly everything out of this old house by monday so i can concentrate on getting my phone etc moved over and on the last club of the year before i have to be out of here on friday. Thanks for your continued prayers at this difficult time charis x

Well I have started to move, (at last)  my friends Avril and Dave wade came down with their van yesterday and lots of people from church came over to help me pack and move...thanks SO, SO much to all who helped. Alot of my stuff is now in the new house but it still needs to be unpacked and sorted out. I am still in my old house for now as i have my internet here and need it for work but I hope to move some more stuff at the weekend and get myself a bit more sorted at the new house too. My back has been good the last few days and all with all my helpers I hardly had to lift a thing yesterday!! Thanks for your continued prayers for my back and for my move too, it is a stressful time.
I have 2 more kids clubs to go this term please pray we will finish well too. thanks charis x

Goodbye

I was in cork on Monday to see my sister before she heads off on her travels again (she leaves next wed), we went out for the day, had an Irish picnic (in the car) and a few walks in between the showers.

moving ....not yet!

I have to admit I have not moved ANYTHING into my new house yet but in my defense I was not feeling well for a couple of days last week and I have hurt my back a little (how i don't know). I have done some cleaning of the new place, so it is ready to receive my things into it :) and I have had sunday school, club and my car has been at the garage as it had it's NCT (like MOT) today (it failed on the very thing they fixed in the garage) so i have not been idle!
My friends Avril and dave are coming to help me move some stuff on the 19th and 20th so I need to get myself orgaised by then and hopefully my back will be ok by then too. Thanks for your continued support love charis x

God is at work for our good ?!

We are learning this memory verse in club at the moment as we study the life of Joseph. Joseph went through alot of  up's and down's  in his life (in our series he has just been thrown in prison for doing what was right ) but we know God was at work through it all  for his good and to bring about His purposes , we can see this very clearly when we look at his life from the distance of time but in the here and now of our lives it can be hard to believe and see that God is at work for our good.
I got the keys of my new house yesterday.....I can't understand why I have to move again and re-settle in a different house wasting time and energy that could be use more constructively but I have to believe God is at work for the good!  The lady I was dealing with in the estate agents was asking alot of questions about Tramore Bible church and I was able to invite her along and drop in a flyer about the church maybe this is the reason?!? whatever the reason or reasons I have to believe and trust God at this time.
I have a lot of work to do now to move but I have the month of May to move which gives me more time and makes it less stressful but please pray for me as I move and re- settle thanks Charis x
